About the programme

BRS is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to BRS members. This programme is designed for ENT surgeons who are in their final years of training (ideally ST6+) as well as Non-Career Grades who wish to extend their Rhinology surgery experience. Presented by a distinguished faculty, this comprehensive immersion training will be delivered as a concentrated day of lectures and panel, followed by two days of cadaveric training in Newcastle. The delegates will then visit the trainers’ hospital for peer-to-peer training on selected rhinology and skull base cases. A final presentation day will be held virtually.

The programme’s philosophy is to provide intensive hands-on training and to ensure this there will be a maximum of two delegates to one faculty member during all Wet Lab and Clinical Sessions.

This programme will be awarded by competitive selection, so delegates should be ST6-8 & NCG’s and they should show evidence of commitment to rhinology surgery and provide a supporting statement from an educational supervisor. Delegates will be selected by a committee of BRS members.

Participants must be BRS members and are expected to attend all modules of the programme.

  • Module 1: Monday 29 January 2024, Newcastle TBC - This one-day course will comprise of lectures and an expert panel discussion.
  • Module 2: Tuesday 30 January & Wednesday 31 January 2024, Newcastle Surgical Training Centre - Procedure lectures and skills training in Newcastle.  Anatomy and dissection on a cadaveric specimen (training ratio of 2:1 per station).
  • Module 3: April - May 2024, Peer-to-Peer Sessions, various locations - Each delegate will attend the NHS hospital of a faculty member (on a 2:1 ratio) to observe live surgery.
  • Module 4: Summer 2024 (TBC), Virtual - Presentation evening: An evening of lectures and presentations, a certificate presentation and a review of the programme.

This is an intensive residential advanced course and delegates will be required to accept a commitment to the complete programme.

ENT UK will book accommodation in Newcastle for Module 1 and 2. Successful delegates will be able to claim reasonable reimbursement for travel expenses within the ENT UK budget guidelines within appropriate timescales.
