BSO 2025: A Resounding Success in Birmingham

The BSO 2025 Conference was a resounding success, held in the stunning Elgar Concert Hall at the University of Birmingham. Over a dynamic day and a half, attendees were treated to a vibrant programme of thought-provoking talks, lively debates, and cutting-edge research presentations.

Highlights included sessions on emerging technological innovations, the evolving role of genetic testing and novel gene therapies, and the latest developments in bone conduction hearing devices and single-sided deafness. Discussions also tackled the impact of social media—both its potential and its pitfalls—in clinical practice.

The 2nd BSO Juniors Meeting kicked off the BSO annual conference with an energising half-day programme and was warmly received by all who attended. Centred around the theme of continuous development, the event offered an inspiring and varied line-up of speakers and sessions.

Rupert Obholzer opened the meeting with a compelling reflection on his Olympic rowing career, drawing insightful parallels between elite sport and medical practice. This was followed by valuable consultant perspectives from Yasmin Abbas and Chris Aldren, and a fascinating series of challenging clinical cases presented by Bhavesh Patel.

Bhavisha Palmar offered a window into the world of academic audiology, while Lucy Dalton highlighted the growing importance of simulation training in clinical education. The afternoon culminated in an engaging and interactive fellowship debate that sparked lively discussion among delegates.

The Juniors Meeting continues to grow in momentum and ambition, providing a supportive and inspiring platform for trainees and early-career professionals.

Beyond the lecture hall, delegates enjoyed excellent networking opportunities, a fantastic conference dinner, and lively after-dinner entertainment courtesy of a brilliant live band. The event also featured a strong presence from industry partners, showcasing the latest advancements in audiological technology.
