The ENT UK Foundation exists to improve ENT healthcare for all, and an important part of its work is its international activity. The Foundation supports humanitarian projects, both nationally and internationally and facilitates global innovation, through the funding of global health and international programmes.
Over the past few years, the Foundation has been able to support several international collaborations. It is proud of its ongoing and strong partnership with Sri Lanka supporting their trainees with lectures and helping deliver exams and set standards in ENT healthcare. More recently, the Foundation was involved in supporting the delivery of an educational lecture series in Africa and the Middle East showcasing surgical ENT techniques to delegates from across those regions where access to training and peer learning can be difficult.
The hugely important annual Foundation Research Grants have also had an impact internationally with a project funded by the Foundation in 2022 to investigate how chronic ear disease affects quality of life in Nepal already providing useful insights into how to best address it. The Foundation funding has enabled connections to be made with a local ENT doctor in Nepal to support the project and provide insights into the community, their understanding of ear disease and their health-related behaviour.
Last year, the Foundation awarded funding to two international projects. One on the feasibility of primary school ear and hearing screening programs in Uganda, and one on the exposure of new-borns in the Neonatal Unit to antibiotics and noise in Malawi. Both of these are important studies, the results of which will have a significant impact in those countries. We would not be able to fund these projects and collaborations without the generous support of our donors and we would like to thank everyone who has given to our cause. If you are interested in supporting our international activity, please get in touch.
Applications are open for new international projects and collaborations so please visit our website for more information.
