Congratulations to ENT UK member Professor Jaydip Ray

Congratulations to ENT UK member Professor Jaydip Ray, who has been made a Deputy Lieutenant of South Yorkshire. The honour comes in recognition of his ground-breaking work in ENT, including as Clinical Director in Ear, Nose and Throat and Hearing Services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

Amongst his many achievements in the field, Professor Ray has been instrumental in the development of a suite of virtual reality tools to assist the treatment of visual vertigo. He successfully implanted an ‘invisible bionic ear’ into the fine bones of a patient’s middle ear – the first such operation undertaken in the north of England.

As reported in the press, Professor Ray is one of eight new Deputy Lieutenants announced. His role will be to support the Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, who personally represents the Queen in the metropolitan county of South Yorkshire.
