Difficulties accessing community dewaxing services

Following recent media interest in the current state of community dewaxing services (including in The Sun and The Daily Mail - see picture, right) and the publication of a report on the subject by the Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID), BSO has produced an article addressing the issue. It notes that the reduction in NHS service provision, resultant dependence on private services, and inevitable proliferation of patients resorting to ineffective and sometimes dangerous means to clear the wax themselves. BSO also raises the unregulated nature of these private services and the lack of training requirements or standards of care delivery, and outlines the group’s attempts to raise its concerns with Government alongside RNID and BAA.
