About the Event

ENT UK and the Association of Otolaryngologists in Training (AOT) are delighted to host a joint webinar on flexible working with real life experiences from current trainees and consultants. Our panel will discuss practicalities of flexible working in a relaxed and candid manner to promote conversations and awareness of different working patterns.

Our panel of speakers include a LTFT Head and Neck Consultant and a trainee on the Portfolio pathway. There will also be a Q&A session including the opportunity to submit questions to the panel in advance.

No personal experience of flexible working necessary - we welcome any ENT trainees and consultants to join our webinar.

This event is free to attend for all ENT UK or AOT members, although advance registration is required.

Speakers

Nicola Stobbs (Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust)

Nicola Stobbs is a Consultant head and neck and paediatric head and neck surgeon in Sheffield with a particular interest in salivary gland cancer and part of the Salivary gland cancer UK research working group. She is passionate about education and is currently ENT training lead at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. She worked LTFT during her final years of training after having two back-to-back parental leave periods. She then undertook a TIG head and neck fellowship in which she negotiated some flexible working, and she now works as a full-time head and neck Consultant but works flexibly affording her a day with her children.

Alex Evans (The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust)

I am currently a Consultant ENT Surgeon working at The Rotherham Foundation NHS Trust with an interest in head and neck and thyroid surgery. I graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2004 and completed both my basic and higher surgical training in South Yorkshire. I started less than full time training at 50% in 2009 as an ST4 trainee for childcare reasons and worked in this way for 8 years. I started as a Consultant in 2018 and continued to work less than full time until approximately 6 months ago.

Dora Amos (Maidstone And Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust)

Dora is a current ST4 ENT trainee in the Kent, Surrey Sussex Deanery. She has been training LTFT since returning to work after maternity leave in December 2024 and is the first LTFT ENT trainee in the deanery. She is currently AOT co-secretary and is organising the next AOT Conference on 11th July 2025 in her hometown of Brighton.

Rory Houston (South Tyneside And Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust)

I am an ST6 in the North East of England, I have utilised the ‘Flexible Portfolio Training’ (FPT) opportunity provided nationally through the deanery. I work full time/100%, FPT allocates me 20% of my working time to undertake a postgraduate qualification. I spend the rest of my time (80%) in clinical work. I am undertaking an MBA Management Investigation during the FPT time.
