GIRFT Clinical Lead vacancy for ENT

The Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme is looking for a National ENT Clinical Lead to play a pivotal role in supporting the programme nationally and across regions and systems to identify good practice, reduce unwarranted variation between providers and systems, and drive forward service improvement.

The candidate will provide clinical leadership in the field of ENT and will lead on established programmes of work and drive leadership and collaboration with the regions and systems.

The role of GIRFT National Clinical Lead is to:

  • Provide clinical advice and leadership to identify unwarranted clinical variation in the delivery of ENT at regional, system, place, and provider level.
  • Provide clinical advice and leadership to identify best practice standards across ENT.
  • Provide clinical advice and leadership on the development of appropriate clinical data/metrics to underpin continuous improvement and achievement across ENT.

The post holder will:

  • Lead ENT GIRFT reviews (online and in-person) with clinicians and management from acute providers and system-level colleagues, using data to identify what is working well, current challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead the ‘Further Faster’ programme for ENT, aiming to accelerate improvements and efficiencies within ENT services.
  • Identify key themes emerging from reviews, including examples of good practice, and work alongside the GIRFT team to produce programme reports which will be used to inform national policy direction and improve service delivery.
  • Feed into the development / delivery of national guidance, representing ENT services.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Knowledge and experience

  • Clinical and/or managerial experience of delivering an ENT service.
  • Experienced senior clinician with credibility and the ability to command the respect of clinical and non-clinical professionals. The applicant should also be endorsed by their relevant college.
  • Extensive experience of delivering presentations to large groups of stakeholders in often pressured and politically sensitive environments.
  • Experience of operating in complex and highly political environments and active in relevant speciality groups.

Skills, capabilities and attributes

  • Good understanding of how to use data to improve quality and productivity.
  • Able to assimilate complex and lengthy information and make decisions in an ambiguous and fast-moving environment.
  • Strong intellectual, strategic, and systemic thinking skills, with the ability to think creatively and laterally to achieve outcomes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, conflict management, feedback, partnership working, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders and convey complex messages to different recipient groups.

Please note that the post holder should have served on a national committee for their specialty and be endorsed as a suitable candidate by their main specialty association.

Please note that this role will be a 12 month fixed term arrangement via a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at 4 PAs per week with your substantive organisation.
