Welcome to first class: a charitable upgrade for NHS workers

A number of hospitals across the country witnessed an unusual sight this weekend, as groups of volunteering airline and cabin crew set up a series of onsite ‘lounges’ to provide a little comfort and respite to busy NHS frontline staff. Project Wingman is an initiative bringing together the staff of a number of airlines in a charitable effort to support NHS workers by providing free coffee, drinks and snacks in a pleasant and relaxing setting.

These pictures were taken in the NHS canteen of Northwick Park and St Marks Hospital in northwest London this weekend, as on-call juniors from ENT and OMFS teams took a much-needed break, relaxing over a coffee courtesy of flight and cabin crew from British Airways.

Project Wingman’s stated mission is to enable grounded aircrew to bring their skills and experience to bear supporting health professionals and “putting smiles on the faces of NHS workers across the country”.
